Straw Pig Small - 2.5"

The Varme Gift Straw Pig Small - 2.5" (SKU: VG-202) is a charming ornament celebrating the deep-rooted Scandinavian Jul tradition of the Christmas pig. Measuring 2.5 inches, this straw pig honors Scandinavian heritage and makes a symbolic addition to your holiday decor.

Historical Context

Historically, pork was vital to Scandinavian diets. While most pigs were butchered in autumn and preserved in brine, families spared select "Christmas pigs" to enjoy fresh meat during the holiday feast—the only time of year they could savor fresh pork.

The Modern Christmas Celebration

Today, while preservation methods have evolved, enjoying pork at Christmas remains a cherished Scandinavian custom. A traditional holiday dinner is incomplete without classics like ham or pork sausage. This ornament honors this enduring culinary and cultural legacy.
